‘Let the one among you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her.’
Jn 8: 7
This week John tells us of another attempt by the scribes and the Pharisees to entrap Jesus. They wanted Jesus to counter the law of Moses but instead, he replied simply “Let the one among you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her.” One by one they leave the woman with Jesus, the only man without sin, who simply tells her “Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” Jesus is displaying two things in this lesson. First, is the forgiveness of God. When we come to the Lord with our sins he is all-forgiving. Secondly, Jesus is reminding us that we are sinners too and that we shouldn’t judge others for their errors. We should instead let God judge them for their indiscretions.
