Brothers,

This week Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up the mountain to pray. Prayer is our way to converse with our Heavenly Father. It’s through consent and regular prayer that our eyes are opened to the wishes of God.

Every year I have made the journey to St David for the St Andrew the Apostle Mens’ Retreat with Father Scott. The first year I went I was told that no matter how you pray to God, whether it is through regimented prayer or you are just having a conversation with God as if he is a long-lost friend, prayer is good. It is food for the soul. We should take time to engage in conversation with our Lord and God whenever we can. I found that through meditation prayer I often feel God’s presents and my eyes are opened to what God wants for me to do.

When I was having my reconvergence and reentered the Church the minister of the RCIA told us that every morning she poured two cups of coffee, one for her and one for God. Then she would set in her chair with her coffee and just talk to God. She says that saying her prayers like this brought her closer to God. Would you believe that every morning God gave her his coffee after their conversation?

You are probably asking yourself where I am going with this. The point is that no matter how your pray, prayer opens your eyes and heart to God and his wishes for you. In this week’s Gospel reading Luke reminds us that Jesus is first and foremost a man of prayer. He talks to our Heavenly Father often just like Moses and Elijah. Upon entering into prayer with the Lord the Disciples fall into a deep sleep and there they see Jesus in a cloud and from the cloud, they hear the voice of God telling them that Jesus is his son and that they should listen to him.

Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
‘This is my chosen Son; listen to him.’

Lk 9:35

We should talk with God often. How do you talk with God? Are you really giving him your attention and love throughout your day?

Vivat Jesus!
